Pantyliners - Yay or Nay

If you are the kind of woman who wears pantyliners on a daily basis, you might find it odd that some women don’t do the same. I mean it seems like a no brainer that all women should wear pantyliners for the following reasons:

1. Feel fresh all day

2. Manage discharge

3. Catch unexpected periods

4. Absorb postpartum flow after giving birth

5. Absorb bladder leaks caused by a sensitive bladder

6. Protect our underwear from large white permanent stains

7. Avoid embarrassing moments with partner

Or should they? Most women who wear pantyliners say they don’t like the feel of their panties being wet/dump as this makes them feel “icky”.

Shocking enough – some gynecologists say that wearing a pantyliner everyday could lead to vagina bacteria infection, yeast infection and some cases of genital acne! As someone who uses pantyliners on a daily basis, I found this disturbing. Some women said:

1. Daily pantyliners don’t let the vagina breath

2. Can cause itchiness and discomfort

3. Might cause UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections)

Having looked at the above, I think we can appreciate that every woman is different. What benefits one can harm another and vice versa. After a few wears of a pantyliner, one can determine whether it is a habit they want to keep or do away with. If you cannot stand the feel and look of discharge on your underwear, it is highly recommended you change your pantyliners during the course of the day. There are several brands out there, do some research and find the one you feel more comfortable with.

If you are prone to infections or itchiness, then pantyliners might not be for you. Always use underwear that has at least 95% cotton material. In some instances, being panty free in the night might help regulate the amount of discharge you get on your underwear. It all comes down to what is comfortable for you. Hygiene can still be maintained if one is not using a pantyliner by changing your underwear at least twice every 24 hours and buying a new set periodically.
